Who is Jesus?

Getting to know Jesus can be both confusing and overwhelming for a new believer, because there are so many different viewpoints about him out there. Different people will say different things about him. Some say is he is the Messiah, and others say he is the Lamb of God. People also call him the Son of Man and Son of God. Yes, he is all of these, but what does all of this mean to a new believer or to someone who has never heard of Jesus Christ?

The only sure way to know who Jesus really is, is to dive into the Word of God--the Bible. However, before we begin, please know that Jesus is too great to be encapsulated into one word, phrase, or thought. He cannot be compartmentalized. I can only begin to tell you about him, but I will fail you because he is far too grand. We cannot describe him to the full because our vocabulary does not allow us to do so; it is far too small. Truthfully, I am not sure we will ever know the fullness of his being, character, or personality. Yet, with the help of the Holy Spirit, and the Bible, we can gain some understanding. Let's begin.

The Bible tells us that Jesus, indeed, is the Son of God. 1 John 4:10 shows us that God loved first loved us by, sending His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Matthew 3:17 declares that a voice came from Heaven and said, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.  Even the demons in Luke 8:28 reference Jesus as the Son of God and says, What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me.

Next, we also read that Jesus is the Son of Man. He is not 50% man and 50% God, but 100% man and 100% God. Jesus was fully a man, because he born to the virgin Mary, pregnant through the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18), but as also fully God. Jesus makes reference of himself as the Son of Man when he says that the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28), which leads us to our next point.

Jesus is our Savior. John 3:16 clearly says For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Jesus died so that we may have life (John 10:10), and everlasting life with God in Heaven (John 3:15). Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved. The Bible clearly shows Jesus as our Savior.

Furthermore, Jesus is the hope of all the world (Matthew 12:21). Jesus is the truth, the life, and the way (John 14:6). He is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus is the good shepherd (John 10:11), and the Redeemer (Isaiah 59:20). He is the Messiah (Daniel 9:25), and the Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5). And the list goes on and on.

For me personally, Jesus is my best friend, my comforter, my brother, my husband, my teacher, my protecter, my joy, my peace, my love, and so much more! But don't just listen to what I say/write. I invite you and strongly encourage you to find out who he is to you! It is not enough for you to read this post or listen to sermons. Ask him to reveal himself to you. Allow him to; he will do it perfectly! Don't let the world define him for you; he desires you to get to know him personally, only then will you have a true and meaningful relationship with him. Don't wait another second longer!

If you do not know Christ, and would like to get to know him, or if you would like to invite him into your life and make him your Lord and Savior, please read the following prayer (below) out loud (and then find a church, group, or partner who can walk with you on this journey).

Father God,

I confess to You that I am a sinner, and my sins have separated me from You. I'm truly sorry for my sins and ask for Your forgiveness. I believe that You Son Jesus, died for my sins. I believe that he was born to the virgin Mary, walked on earth, and was then crucified over 200 years ago. I also believe that You raised him back to life on the third day. I invite Jesus to come into my heart and into my life today. Jesus, come and reign in my life from this day forward. Also, send me your Holy Spirit to guide me and teach me. In Jesus' name I ask, amen.

Now let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, Creator, Author, and Ruler of the Universe,

I thank You for this message. I thank you for Jesus Christ. Thank you for his birth, death, and resurrection. Thank you for giving us life, and a place in Heaven. Lord, as this new year begins, I pray that You will continue to guide, protect, lead, and help us. Forgive us for our sins. Keep us from being led astray by sin and the temptations of the world. Nothing is secure except for you; no one can take Your place! I ask that You remove anything trying to take Your place, and may only You remain in our hearts! Continue to correct us and show us our sin for what it is, then help us to overcome. Lord, You alone are Holy, Righteous, Pure, Perfect, and Blameless. We need You so much Lord, You are our all in all. We revere You and know that we cannot do it alone. Thank you for saving us, and for everything else You've don't for us. All the praise, power, honor, glory, and dominion is Yours. In Jesus' name, amen.

Prayerfully,

Pam
